My customer asked me to upcycle her late grandparents’ clothing into a keepsake. I told her, “I can make anything.” When she said, “An eagle,” I’ll admit—I was nervous. I’d never made one before and couldn’t find a pattern anywhere. But I love a challenge, so I drafted my own. 🦅 Every step—cutting, stitching, embroidery—brought me closer to the final piece. This project also marked my first time machine-embroidering eyes, which was such a fun new detail. The most meaningful touch: her grandmother always waved goodbye with the ASL sign for “I love you.” That gesture is now stitched into each eagle, so her love will always soar. ✨ What keepsake would you want made from your loved one’s clothing? It tests my patience, I test its tension… but no matter what, I’ll always love you, my amazing sewing machine ♥️ I tell it ‘I love you’ daily (before my husband and kids — only because I’m at the machine before they wake up 😁) This piece is extra special — stitching the ‘I love you’ sign in ASL onto my customer’s grandmother’s clothes. I repurposed the shirt collar into a stunning back detail—such a cool touch! I’m passionate about learning new skills! 📖 🪡 I was gifted a mega endless embroidery hoop and jumped right into mastering it, plus I taught myself cutwork embroidery. This summer, I decided to sew my own clothes for the first time since high school (though I did upcycle my wedding dress in 2018 and a jacket in May!). I usually skip clothing mock-ups—my expertise in pattern making and seamstressing lets me tweak and perfect anything that needs altering, saving time and materials. The embroidery came out flawless, but I hit a few fitting snags along the way.
